Eligibility requirements for English public schools

In order to qualify for English instruction in Quebec public schools, students must meet certain criteria under the Charter of the French Language as set out by the Quebec government. All families must complete an application for a Certificate of Eligibility before registering for school. Requirements differ depending on academic level, citizenship, and education history. In this section of the site you can find the application process for the most common criteria. In certain situations applications must be done at the Law 101 office.

1. Children with Canadian parents or siblings who have completed the majority of their primary education in English in Canada.

Visit our office

The Law 101 office is open for walk-in visitors. It is located on the first floor of the EMSB Administration Building in room 121. Please enter through the main entrance on the corner of Fielding and Côte St-Luc and present yourself at the security desk to obtain a pass to enter the building.
